For 23 years, Energizer, the International Association of Fire Chiefs (“IAFC”) and our network of more than 6,200 fire departments nationwide have worked tirelessly to remind communities of the simple, life-saving habit of changing and testing the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when setting the clocks back from daylight-saving time.

Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in reported home fire structures in half. Thousands are injured and killed each year from home fires. Overall, roughly 66 percent of home fire deaths in this country occur in homes without working smoke alarms. Considering that residential fire deaths peak in winter months, it’s critical to check and change your smoke alarm batteries each and every fall.
